I know a lot of classic Who fans don't like when people really like new Who. I like both (I can't choose a very favrorite Doctor though the Fifth Doctor is... special to me... but so is the Fourth... and... I could go on), and it bothers me a bit hearing/seeing classic Who fans acting like they are somehow better people for disliking Chris and David and Matt's portrayals of the character. How do you feel about new Who fans or the holier-than-thou attitude of some classic fans?

I like the new show. Well, I like it now. I started in on series 2 and I thought it was all pretty cool but I never would have gotten in to fandom without the Master and other Time Lord talk making me curious enough to go back and find all to really interesting stuff.

Now I really have liked the last two series, to the point that I’ve done a fair bit of fan work for it, so maybe I would have been caught on the new stuff? Who knows.

Even as much as I love Classic Who it’s really more the audios that are the draw. I think it’s where the best stories and characters are.

I can’t see being upset about people liking what they like. Would I be happy if there were a few less Ten/Rose fanworks and a few more Five/Nyssa? Yes, very. Would I like to see people get as excited about Romana as they do about River? Yeah. But I’m not out to ruin anyone’s fun, I just tend not to follow people if they post stuff I’m not into. I think others would do well to do the same.

What I don’t like is when people act like all the old stuff doesn’t exist any more or make statements that at completely untrue about the Doctor (he would never touch a gun he or has never had a companion die) and won’t listen when they are told otherwise.

It’s really just an attitude that nothing but 9-10-11 matters that piss people off but, hey, even most classic fans don’t know about my favourite characters and stories so you know, you learn to deal.
